Despite being only 4 miles wide and 7 miles long, Skiathos boasts more than 60 fine beaches and is one of the most popular holiday destinations of the Greek Islands.
The most famous beach on the island is Koukounaries. Koukounaries is a mile-long strip with a pine forest backdrop that attracts many visitors, especially in the summer months.
Visitors to Skiathos that want more than just to lounge in the sun can take a boat trip from Skiathos Town marina and see the sights, which include a ruined Venetian fortress dating from 1207, and the deserted 14th-century town of Kastro.
