The country’s capital city and one of the oldest cities in the world, Athens is the heart of Ancient Greece. Acropolis the city’s most visited attraction, is visible from almost every part of the city, situated on a hilltop topped with ancient buildings such as the majestic 5th century BC Parthenon temple. Take a stroll along the Archaeological Promenade, a 2.5-mile long, pedestrian-only, tree-lined walkway linking all the city’s major archaeological sites. The Greek capital remains lively all through the year, with many urban-chic bars and cafés. The blissful Greek islands are very accessible from Athens, with regular ferries departing from Piraeus port, the largest passenger port in Europe.
